About Us
We have been showing and breeding Golden Retrievers in Tasmania for 25 years. We started out just wanting a wonderful pet and the Golden was our first choice, the companion dog par excellence. However friends introduced us to conformation showing and we were hooked. As well as showing Goldens, we have been actively involved with club administration, stewarding and assisting the dog show fraternity in Tasmania.
We are current members of the Tasmanian Golden Retriever Club and have been since its formation in 1996. John was a former President of the TGRC (2003-2005) and President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Brighton Kennel Club from 1986 to 2002. Denise has been a committee member of the Brighton Kennel Club since 1986.
We have two wonderful children Sarah (born 1990) and William (born 1995). They are not really into the dogshowing scene, but are busy enough with horse riding, hockey, soccer, theatre and singing/dance. Sarah has recently moved to Perth to further her theatrical career and is now studying a Bachelor of Music theatre at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), one of only 18 selected Australia-wide for this course. Will has now started High School at MacKillop College. Will really enjoys his chickens, history and XBox (what else)!!
Denise teaches at The Friends' School in Hobart and John is a self-employed Planning and Heritage Consultant.
Having a 2 hectare property in a rural setting ensures our dogs have plenty of space and fresh air to grow up healthy. But we have to make sure they don't get to the chickens!!!
We have also ventured into Hound territory over the last year, with Denise showing her mother's Petit Bassett Griffon Vandeen "Ellie". She is a real cutey!!
We have also been blessed to have found wonderful homes for our Golden puppies over the years, made some lifetime friends and are always proud to see Heathbrook doggies out and about.
